This measure sought to renew the current parks levy which is set at a rate of $.75 per $1,000 of assessed value for a further four years in order to continue to pay for operational costs of parks and recreational facilities in the township.[2]

The question on the ballot:

Shall the constitutional limitation upon the total amount of taxes which may be levied on all taxable real and personal property in the Township of Washington, Macomb County, Michigan be increased by three-quarters (3/4) of one (1) mill for each one ($1.00) dollar ($0.75 for each $1,000.00) of the taxable value of such property for a period of four (4) years commencing 2012 and ending 2015, for the operation of Parks and Recreation pursuant to 1917 PA 156? The estimated revenue to be collected in the first year that the millage is authorized and levied is $819,646.00. This proposed millage is a renewal of a previously authorized millage and does not constitute new additional millage.[3]
