Westland City Council recall, Michigan (2012)
An effort to recall five members of the Westland, Michigan, city council was launched in August 2012. The five city council members targeted for recall were James Godbout, Adam Hammons, Meriam Kadi, Michael Kehrer and Dewey Reeves. The recall effort did not result in a recall election.
Reasons for recall
William Campbell and Burke Rock filed the recall petitions. The catalyst for recall was a vote to approve a 40-year amendment to the city's Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA) plan. The new plan could include construction of a new city hall.
Path to the ballot
Petition language was approved on August 9. Recall organizers would have needed to collect 5,637 signatures on each petition in order to force a recall election.
