Wheatland J1 School District Referendum (2009)
The measure ultimately passed 193 - 163 after having been defeated on April 7, with 363 "yes" votes and 417 "no" votes.
The tax rate will increase from $6.73 to $7.40 per $1,000 of equalized property value. So, a $200,000 property will see an increase of $134 annually.
Wording of referendum
Be it resolved by the school Board of the Joint School District Number 1, Towns of Wheatland, Brighton, Randall and Salem, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, that the revenues included in the School District Budget for the 2009-2010 school year and for three school years thereafter, to and including the 2012-2013 school year be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $300,000 a year, for non-recurring purposes in order to maintain the current educational level of the district and cover shortfalls due to decreased funding
