This measure sought to continue the current sales tax which goes towards funding the county jail which is set at half a cent. Although it does not expire until 2015, county officials wanted to renew it early so there would not be a worry in a few years time. The tax was originally approved in 1995 and goes towards funding general operations and maintenance costs of the jail facilities.[2]
