Zurich Ban On Teaching High German, 2011

A Zurich Ban On Teaching High German measure was asked of voters in the Canton of Zurich on May 15, 2011.

This measure was approved, allowing the ban.

This measure sought to end the teaching of High German to Kindergarten students and instead just focus on Swiss German when teaching children. Proponents of the measure noted that teaching high German does not help students where as teaching Swiss German from the beginning helps them to better integrate into Swiss society.[1]
