Biography
Daoud began his career in public service working as a police officer, and used his law enforcement credentials to become Executive Director of a non-profit organization aimed at gang-prevention called the local Police Athletic League. He eventually segued into the private sector as a small funeral home business-owner in Pilot Mountain. He earned his M.B.A. and consulted professionally with other funeral home business-owners to help guide their expansion efforts.
While pursuing his funeral home business and consulting career, Daoud remained true to his service roots. He helped create a state organization connecting PALs in various cities, served as Vice President at the national level, and lobbied for the Missing and Exploited Children act.
Daoud lends his time and energies as a member and/or leader of several community service organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity and United Way. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Pilot Mountain Zoning and Planing Board, and on the Mayor's Downtown Task Force.[2]

Political career
While the 2012 secretary of state election marks his first run for public office in North Carolina, back in 1986, the then-Miami Beach police officer made an unsuccessful bid for Florida State House. He also assisted in the winning campaigns of Republicans Jim Holshouser and U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms.[3]
Elections
2012
Daoud faced Mike Beitler, Ed Goodwin, and Kenn Gardner in the May 8th Republican Primary election for secretary of state. He finished fourth in the race, with 10% of the vote. According to a new North Carolina law, a single candidate must receive a minimum of 40% of the total vote to secure the party's nomination. Since no candidate reached the 40% threshold in the primary, the top two vote-getters - Ed Goodwin and Kenn Gardner - will face one another in a runoff election on July 17 to determine who will face Elaine Marshall (D) in the general election.

Issues

Daoud supports expanding the role of secretary of state beyond handling corporate records to give the office ambassador-type power to recruit and invite companies into North Carolina. He also proposes developing job creation fairs at community colleges.[3]
- Illegal-Immigration
The Republican candidate advocates making corporate employers provide proof of citizenship for all workers on annual reports corporations must submit to the secretary of state's office.[3]
