Adair withdraws from state senate race, ending incumbent-vs-incumbent battle
SANTE FE, New Mexico: Incumbent Republican state senators Bill Burt and Rod Adair were thrust into the same district via the redistricting process. However, after initially declaring to run, Adair has withdrawn from his re-election bid.
He said he had a change-of-mind against an intra-party primary battle with fellow incumbent Burt. Adair plans to focus his efforts on helping Republicans -- currently in the minority of the chamber -- try to win more races in the election.
Republicans need to win back eight Senate seats in the 2012 election in order to take control of the chamber.
