Adam Kline is a Washington state senator, currently serving the 37th district.[1] He has occupied his senate seat since 1996 and is a member of the Democratic Party. He is married to King County Superior Court Judge Laura Gene Middaugh. They have one daughter and one grandchild.

Education

Kline earned her BA from Johns Hopkins University in 1968. She went on to receive her JD from the University of Maryland in 1972.

Professional experience

Kline has worked as a newspaper reporter as well as a merchant seaman in the past. From 1972 to 1973 he worked in legal services, MS. He then worked as a legal services attorney from 1973 to 1977. Kline continued his career as an attorney for a private practice from 1977 to 2004. He currently works for the Laborers Union and has worked in that position since 2004.

Political experience

Kline was appointed to the Washington State Senate in January of 1997. He served as Democratic Assistant Whip for that year. He has represented the 37th district in the Washington State Senate since 2007.

Policy positions

The Washington state legislature is one of several states that exempts many of its own records from public disclosure. According to the state's Public Records Act, legislators are not required to reveal all their e-mail correspondence and other internal communications to the public. According to the Seattle Times, Kline has expressed hostility toward the idea that these records should be public.[2],[3]

Personal life

Kline and his wife Laura Gene Middaugh have one child.
