Alabama Amendment 8 was on the November 7, 1998 election ballot in Alabama. It passed, with 54.3% of voters in favor.

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama, to prohibit the burdening of the free exercise of religion unless government demonstrates that it has a compelling interest in doing so and that the interest is achieved by the least restrictive means.
