Dueling anti-fraud initiatives were announced by Alabama's Republican and Democratic parties as the election approaches. The Alabama Republican Party's Ballot Security Program will have an attorney and a party representative checking absentee ballot and registration numbers in each county. Meanwhile, the Democrats' Voter Protection Program, according to the head of the state party, is part of "an effort to protect the integrity of every vote in Alabama, including those cast via provisional or absentee ballot.”[1]
State parties hoping to hear from the public
Both parties have established toll-free numbers that voters can use to ask questions and report suspected vote-fraud. A spokeswoman for the Democrats said that they were fielding calls from voters and telling them, among other things, how to vote a straight-party ticket and that it's okay to wear campaign accessories to the polls.[1]
