Alaska Gas Pipeline Fund Questions (2012)

Alaska Gas Pipeline Fund Questions did not make the 2012 ballot in the state of Alaska. The advisory question was first proposed for the 2010 ballot. The measure would have asked Alaska voters whether or not to use state money to fund a gas pipeline, using $6 billion from general obligation bonds. The 2011 state legislative session ended without the measure being sent to the ballot. It still could have made the ballot during 2012 session, but it did not.[1]
The proposal was introduced by Representative Mike Chenault and was co-sponsored by Representative Jay Ramras in 2010. That measure was referred to the Finance Committee on February 5, 2010. It did not make the 2010 ballot, however. The 2012 version was introduced by State Senator Lesil McGuire. If it had been sent to the ballot and approved, the legislature would not have been bound to implement the measure. Since the measure was an advisory question, it would have only served as a tool for legislators to push for the gas pipeline.[2][3]
