The current auditor is Pat K. Davidson, who was first appointed to her position in 1997.
Authority
The office of legislative auditor is established by state law.[1]

Qualifications
State law requires the auditor to be a certified public accountant in Alaska with at least five years of professional experience.[2]

| (a) The legislative auditor shall be a certified public accountant of this state, or of another state having requirements equivalent to those of this state, with at least five years of practice in the profession, or the equivalent, before the appointment. |
Appointments
The legislative auditor is nominated by the Legislative Budget and Audit Committee of both houses of the state legislature. The full legislature must then confirm the nominee. In case a nomination is made while the legislature is out of session, the nominee serves until lawmakers reconvene. The auditor serves at the legislature's pleasure, but may be removed by a majority vote of the Legislative Budget and Audit Committee when the legislature is out of session.[2]
Duties
The legislative auditor heads the Alaska Division of Legislative Audit, which conducts financial compliance and performance audits of state agencies. It also prepares other reports and memoranda on the condition of the state government at the request of the Legislative Budget and Audit Committee.
Compensation
In 2010, the auditor received compensation in the amount of $118,992.[3]
