Albert M. Kookesh {b. November 24, 1948} is a Democratic member of the Alaska Senate, representing the C District since 2005. Previously he was a member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 1997 through 2004.

Education

Albert Kookesh earned his Bachelor's degree at the Alaska Methodist University in 1971 and went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree at the University of Washington in 1976.

Professional Experience

Kookesh has a wide range of professional experience, ranging from commercial fishing to directing the American Indian Museum Smithsonian Institution. In addition, Kookesh has been involved in the Sealaska Corporation as a board member and the owner/operator of Lodge and Market. Starting in 1976, Albert Kookesh worked for Kootznoowoo, Incorporated, where he served as business manager, executive vice president, acting president, and chief executive officer throughout the course of his employment, which ended in 1992. Two years later, Kookesh served in the Office of the Governor as special assistant for rural affairs.

Political Experience

Kookesh began his political career in 1996 as a representative in the Alaska State House of Representatives until 2004, where he still serves as an Alaskan senator. Currently, Albert Kookesh is the precinct chairman and central committeeman of the Alaska Democratic Party.
