Al Melvin has been a Republican member of the Arizona Senate since 2008. He represents the 26th district.

Education

Melvin earned his BS from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1969. He then went on to earn his MBA in International Management from American Graduate School in 1972. He received his Diploma from United States Naval War College in 1994.

Professional experience

After his schooling, Melvin served as a Captain in the United States Navy from 1997 to 1999. He then became a Ship's Officer in the American Maritime Officers from 1999 to 2002. In 2002 Melvin became a teacher for the University of Arizona. He worked there until 2006. He also worked as a consultant for American Quality International Consulting from 2002 to 2006.

Political experience

Melvin has served as a member of the Saddlebrooke Republican Club as well as the Pima County Republic Club. He was also a member of the National Republican Committee from 1996 to 2000. He became Republican Precinct Committeeman in 2005 until 2006. He ran for Senate in 2006 but was defeated. Melvin ran again in 2008 and was elected to the Arizona State Senate, where he currently serves.
