Biography
Born and raised in McCalla, in the Bessemer-cut-off of Alabama, Allen Farley would ultimately make his carer in law enforcement, first on Bessemer's Police Department, beginning in 1973, and later with the Jefferson County Sheriff.
Farley was involved in creating the first School Resource Officer Division for the Jefferson County School System. He also coordinated law enforcement activities in Jefferson County Schools from January of 1990 through May of 1997.
He served as the second in command with the Jefferson Sheriff for ten months before being fired in 1998. Farley alleges it was over his personal friendships and political allegiances. For three-and-a half years, he supported his family through odd jobs and private security work.
Farley retired as assistant sheriff for Jefferson County on March 1, 2010 after 36 years in police work. He began his campaign for the state House the following day.
He is also actively involved with the Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Council in Birmingham, which houses over one hundred men as part of a six-month program to treat addiction and substance abuse. Among other activities, he leads a weekly mens' Bible study at the ARC.
His own wife's struggles with dependency on prescription drugs informs both his ARC work and his campaign's focus on reducing drug use in neighborhoods.[1]
Farley and his wife of 35 years have three daughters, all of whom have families of their own. In total, the Farley's now have ten grandchildren.
Farley has spoken of wanting to serve Alabamans outside of the legislatve session and outside on Montgomery, saying" I want to be a full time representative, not a part-time politician."

Issues
In keeping with his position as a values candidate, each item on the issues section of Farley's website is paired with a supporting Biblical quote.
Farley introduces his issue platform by saying, "Our campaign is centered around TRUST and living out one of my favorite Bible verses, Matthew 5:16. If the voters in House District 15 will TRUST me, I will live out my Christian values everywhere I go, every day. In doing this “All men will see my good works and glorify my Father in heaven”. It is time Christians step out and let our actions speak as loudly as our words. This country was founded on the actions, not just words, of Christian men and women."[2]
Safety in neighborhoods and schools
Farley advocates for cutting drugs and violence in family neighborhoods and has pledged to introduce legislation that would expand education programs beyond law enforcement to include families.
Ethics reform
Several of Farley's proposals center around greater transparency and state control over lobbyists. Among other items, he wants to see disclosure of lobbying expenditures required for any amount spent, not just items over $250, as Alabama law currently stipulates.
He also wants to see all PAC-to-PAC transfers banned and to limit the legal ability of lobbyists to make gifts to legislators.
Lastly, Farley supports giving subpoena power to the Alabama Ethics Commission.
The economy
In addition to citing needs to both create job and develop a more vital workforce in Alabama, Farley pledges to take a position against any new taxes and any pay raises for the legislature on his campaign site.
He cites a recent 62% pay raise the state legislature voted for itself as a prime example and plans to work on repealing that pay raise once elected.
Elections
2010
Farley defeated incumbent Pat Moore in the June 1 primary. He then ran uncontested in the November 2 general election.[3][4]
On election night, with most precincts reporting, Farley said of his apparent victory, "I was cautiously optimistic that I would win," he said. "It is an awesome responsibility, and I'm extremely humbled."[5]
