SPRINGFIELD, Illinois: On Thursday, May 4, the Illinois Senate voted 51-2 on the Illinois Public Pension Amendment. This action, following a vote of 113-0 taken by the Illinois House of Representatives last week, passes the measure on to this year's November ballot. The measure generally makes it more difficult for the General Assembly, city councils, and school districts to increase the pension benefits of their employees, requiring a three-fifths approval by the body wishing to do so. The bill is called HJRCA 49 and is sponsored by Representative Michael Madigan.[1]
