The American GI Forum of California is a chapter of the American GI Forum, which was established after World War II. Much of the compensation given to veterans by the GI Bill of Rights were denied to Hispanic Americans. Thus, the American GI Forum was created to address problem of discrimination and inequity facing Hispanic veterans. "Local, State and National Conferences continue to promote and move forward an agenda put forth in 1948 for the betterment of all citizens and by the American GI Forum."[1]

The American GI Forum of California has 29 separate chapters all with their own Commander or Chairwoman.
