Ami Bera is a Democratic member of the U.S. House representing the 7th Congressional District of California. He was first elected in 2012.

Bera defeated incumbent Dan Lungren (R) in the general election. The race was too close to call for more than one week after the polls closed.[1][2]

Bera works as a physician and educator.[4] He has also served as Associate Dean for Admissions at the University of California-Davis School of Medicine and was the former Chief Medical Officer for the County of Sacramento.[4]

He and district 3 incumbent Dan Lungren (R) advanced past the June 5, 2012, blanket primary, defeating Douglas Arthur Tuma (L) and Curt Taras (Ind). Bera was victorious in the November 6, 2012, general election.[8][9]
