Gardiner was on the Orange County Republican Executive Committee. He served in the Florida State House of Representatives from 2001 to 2008. From 2004 to 2006 he was House Majority Leader. He joined the Florida State Senate in 2008 and has served in that position since. He has been Senate Majority Whip since 2008, representing the 9th district.
Gardiner was Director of Community and Business Relations for Orlando Health. He has also worked as Executive Director of the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce.
Gardiner earned his BS in Political Science/Psychology from Stetson University in 1992.

Gardiner won re-election in the 2012 election for Florida State Senate District 9. Gardiner ran unopposed in the Republican primary on August 14, 2012, and defeated Christopher Charles Pennington (D) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]
2008
On November 4, 2008, Gardiner won election to the 9th District Seat in the Florida State Senate, defeating Darius L. Davis (D) and Jacob J. Hanselman, III (WRI). Gardiner raised $451,266, while Davis raised $17,294 and Hanselman raised $30. [3]
