D'Amelio is the Owner of Five Capital Realty, a licensed realtor with the Covino Agency, and Co-Owner of Paisano's Restaurant and Bar. He previously was Owner of the Pond View Cafe, a realtor with Advantage Realty, and Co-Owner of the Three of a Kind Family Restaurant.
He served as an Alderman of the Waterbury City Council from 1994-1996, and was a Commissioner with the Waterbury Board of Education from 1990-1994.
D'Amelio is a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Town Plot Neighborhood Association, National Association of Realtors, Waterbury Board of Realtors, and the Holy Names Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.[1]

On November 4, 2008, D'Amelio won re-election to the Connecticut House of Representatives from Connecticut's 71st District, defeating Stephen Ferrucci, III (D and WF) and Arthur Denze, Sr. (I). D'Amelio received 5,563 votes in the election while Ferrucci received 3,778 votes, and Denze received 1,271 votes.[5] D'Amelio raised $28,701 for his campaign; Ferrucci raised $30,771, and Denze raised $32,165.[6]

Each member of the Connecticut General Assembly receives a score from 0 to 10 based on how he or she voted in ten key votes. The Institute selects key votes which "reveal the differences between those legislators that would harness the power of individual liberty and the market to improve lives, and those that prefer a centrally-planned approach."
