Giles is a high school teacher and Oswego Village Trustee. He has a Masters in Education from DePaul Uniersity and Masters in Counseling from Northern Illinois University.[1]

Giles ran in the 2012 election for Illinois State Senate District 49. Giles lost in the Republican primary on March 20, 2012. He faced Gary Fitzgerald, Garrett Peck and Brian Smith. Incumbent William "Sam" McCann is not running for re-election in District 49, instead he is running in District 50. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3][4]
