The Arizona Secretary of State election took place on November 4, 2014, following a primary on August 26. Term-limited Republican Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett was ineligible to seek re-election in 2014. The race to replace him featured Republican candidate Michele Reagan and Democratic candidate and former Attorney General Terry Goddard.

Michele Reagan won election to a four-year term. This seat was targeted during the general election by SOS for Democracy and SOS for SOS, outside groups who were lobbying for liberal and conservative secretary of state candidates, respectively.[1][2]

Bennett succeeded Jan Brewer (R) as secretary of state in January 2009 when Brewer replaced then-Gov. Janet Napolitano (D). Brewer appointed Bennett after Napolitano left office to become the head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He served out the remainder of Brewer's unexpired term and then won a full four-year term as secretary of state in the general election on November 2, 2010.[3][4] Bennett was prevented from seeking re-election in 2014 by a state law that bars state executives from occupying the same office for more than two consecutive terms. Brewer was also term-limited in 2014 and Bennett, hoping for the chance to take her place once again, unsuccessfully sought the Republican gubernatorial nomination for the open seat in the primary election on August 26, 2014.

Arizona is one of 21 states with a mixed primary system. The primary is considered semi-closed. Unaffiliated voters may choose which party's primary they will vote in, but voters registered with a party can only vote in that party's primary.[5][6][7]
