BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut: Last night Connecticut State Representative Andres Ayala, Jr. announced his candidacy for the Connecticut State Senate's 23rd District. Incumbent Edwin Gomes and former senator Ernest Newton, II, have already declared an intent to run in the August 14, 2012, Democratic primary.[1]

If Ayala wins, he will be the first Hispanic person to hold the seat.[1]
