CHEYENNE: Wyoming: There are 75 total legislative seats with 2012 elections in Wyoming, where all polling places are open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Mountain Time on Election Day.[1]

Republicans currently enjoy a large 26-4 majority in the Senate and a 50-10 majority in the House.

Of the 75 incumbents up for election in 2012, 57 (76%) of them are running for re-election. A total of 22 of 75 (29.3%) districts will see more than one major party candidate in the general election.

Here are a few races to watch:

Senate

Only two races in the Senate feature more than one candidate.

House

  • In District 22: Republican Marti Halverson is up against Bill Winney, the only independent candidate to make Wyoming's general election ballot. Winney ran for the seat in 2010 as a Republican, where he lost to Democrat Jim Roscoe, who chose not to seek re-election, by 477 votes.[2]
  • In District 55: Incumbent David Miller (R) will face Sherry Shelley (D) and Bethany Baldes (L). Miller made national headlines for sponsoring what became known as the "doomsday bill" - in its final form the bill would have required Wyoming to look into acquiring strike aircraft and an aircraft carrier in case the federal government failed.[3]
