Vol. 1, Issue 13: 3/16/2010 Ballot measure news

75 statewide ballot measures are certified for 2010 ballots in 28 states as of today, according to Ballotpedia's Tuesday Count for March 16.

This week, Alaskan election officials certified 36,285 signatures for the Alaska Parental Notification Initiative.

The Oregon Annual Legislative Sessions, Oregon Higher Education Funds, Oregon Property Projects and Washington Bail Authority ballot questions joined the ballot since March 2, as did two anti-card check ballot measures, one in South Dakota and one in South Carolina.

Four measures (California marijuana, Colorado fetal personhood, Ohio Slots and South Dakota marijuana) are pending signature certification.

In the ten even-numbered years from 1990-2008, an average of 211 ballot questions made it onto statewide ballots, with a low in 2004 of 162 and a high in 1998 of 272. If 2010 results in an average year, anywhere from 130 to 140 additional measures can be expected to qualify for the ballot.
