User talk pages on Ballotpedia make it easy for you to connect with other Ballotpedia editors and users.

Who has a "user talk page"?

Anyone who registers automatically gets what is known as a "user talk page." Your user talk page is always the words "user talk" plus a colon followed by your user name on Ballotpedia.

For example, "User talk:MMH" or [[User talk:MMH]] which is User talk:MMH.

You can always access your user talk page by clicking the "my talk" link at the top of any page on Ballotpedia when you are logged in.

How do I leave a note on someone's talk page?

Simply visit their talk page and using normal editing procedures, type in your note. (Don't forget to click "Save page").

To let the other user know who left the note, "sign" your submission by inserting four tildes (like this: ~~~~) at the end of your note. Look for the tilde ( ~ ) key on your keyboard. Remember to hold down the shift and then click the key.

You can also use the Tilde edit button at the top of your edit box. It looks like this: Tilde edit button.png

How will they know I left a message?

After you edit someone's user talk page, the alert "You have new messages" is automatically displayed on all pages that user views, until he or she views his or her user talk page. It looks like this:

"Talk" pages and "Discussion" pages

User talk pages Your user talk page is associated with your user page, and therefore accessible by the "my talk" blue link at the top of every page. Your user talk page is also accessible by clicking the "Discussion" tab found on your user page. There are several ways to find another user's talk page, so you can leave a message:

  • In the top search box in the left column on Ballotpedia's pages, type, for example, User talk:Sthompson. You will need to know the user's name in order to do this.
  • If you are not sure of the user's name where you want to leave a message, remember that the user's name and a link to their talk page is included in every edit they make on any page. If you can find one edit, you can click the "talk" link.

Edit using the same basic editing techniques you would for any page on the wiki (see the Basic editing tutorials)

Content page "Discussion" Every page on the wiki has an associated "Discussion" page. For content pages, the Discussion page is used for talk about the topic of the page. Edit using the same basic editing techniques you would for any page on the wiki (see the Basic editing tutorials)
