Contents |
Prior to her election to the House, Ballard served on the Lawrence School Board from 1985-1993.
She has a BMeEd from Webster College, and an MS and PhD from Kansas State University. She has worked as an elementary school teacher, and since 1980 has served as Dean of Students at the University of Kansas as well as Director of the Emily Taylor Women's Resource Center.
Ballard is the Chairwoman of the House Democratic Caucus and the House Minority Caucus.[1]

Ballard refused to take Project Vote Smart's 2008 Political Courage Test. The test, which is administered to all candidates for presidential, congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative offices, asks one central question - "Are you willing to tell citizens your positions on the issues you will most likely face on their behalf?"[3]

Ballard won re-election in the 2012 election for Kansas House of Representatives District 44. She ran unopposed in the August 7 Democratic primary and defeated Patrick Bengtson (D) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[5][6]

Ballard won re-election to the 44th District Seat in 2010 with no opposition. She was also unopposed in the Democratic primary. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.[7]

On November 4, 2008, Ballard was re-elected to the 44th District Seat in the Kansas House of Representatives with no opposition. [8] She raised $11,192 for her campaign. [9]
