Opposing Queen Lydia Liliuokalani School closure

Marumoto-Coons strongly opposes the potential closure of Queen Lili`uokalani Elementary School because she values small schools and small classes, according to her. She also think it would be "ironic to shut its doors on the 100th school year since the Queen dedicated its opening."
Marumoto-Coons said closing the school would save Hawaii $372,000 a year, a potentially disputable figure.[2]

Marumoto-Coons won re-election to the 19th District Seat in 2010. She had no primary opposition on September 18, 2010. She was also unopposed in the November 2, 2010 general election.[3]
2008
On November 4, 2008, Marumoto-Coons won re-election to the Hawaii House of Representatives from Hawaii's 19th District, defeating Michael Abe (D). Marumoto-Coons received 6,440 votes in the election while Abe received 4,450 votes.[4] Marumoto-Coons raised $73,646 for her campaign; Abe raised $6,566.[5]
