McGuire won election in the 2012 election for Arizona State Senate District 8. She ran unopposed in the August 28, 2012, Democratic primary. She won the general election on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
2010
McGuire lost re-election to the 23rd district seat in 2010. She and Ernest Bustamante defeated Ralph Varela in the August 24 primary election. They were then defeated by Democratics John Fillmore and Frank Pratt in the November 2 general election.[4][5]

On November 4, 2008, McGuire and Frank Pratt were elected to the 23rd District Seat in the Alabama House of Representatives, defeating opponents John Fillmore (R) and Ernest Bustamante (D).[6]
