A Basalt & Rural Fire Protection District Levy Increase question was on the November 6, 2012 election ballot in Eagle and Pitkin Counties, which are in Colorado, where it was approved.

This question authorized the Basalt and Rural Fire Protection District to levy an additional property tax of up to 3.05 mills ($3.05 per $1,000 of assessed valuation) to fund general operations of the District. The first year revenue to be collected in 2013 is $1,037,809.[1]

Language on the ballot:

SHALL BASALT & RURAL FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT TAXES BE INCREASED UP TO $1,037,809 FOR THE FIRST FULL FISCAL YEAR, AND BY SUCH AMOUNTS AS MAY BE GENERATED ANNUALLY THEREAFTER, BY AN ADDITIONAL MILL LEVY OF NOT MORE THAN 3.05 MILLS (FOR A TOTAL GENERAL OPERATING MILL LEVY OF 8.0 MILLS, EXCLUSIVE OF REFUNDS, ABATEMENTS, OR DEBT SERVICE), COMMENCING IN TAX YEAR 2012 FOR COLLECTION IN FISCAL YEAR 2013, WITH SUCH PROCEEDS TO BE USED TO SUSTAIN THE QUALITY OF THE DISTRICT'S GENERAL OPERATIONS IN LIGHT OF DECLINING PROPERTY VALUES AND RESULTING DECREASED REVENUES, SPECIFICALLY INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, MAINTAINING APPROPRIATE LEVELS OF ESSENTIAL FIREFIGHTING AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES PERSONNEL, REPLACING NECESSARY MAJOR FIREFIGHTING AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES APPARATUS, EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS, AND IMPLEMENTING NECESSARY CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS, AND SHALL SUCH TAX PROCEEDS BE COLLECTED, RETAINED AND SPENT BY THE DISTRICT AS A VOTER-APPROVED REVENUE CHANGE IN EACH YEAR, WITHOUT REGARD TO ANY APPLICABLE LIMITATION ON REVENUES AND EXPENDITURES, INCLUDING THE LIMITATIONS SET FORTH IN ARTICLE X, SECTION 20 OF THE COLORADO CONSTITUTION AND PART 3 OF ARTICLE 1 OF TITLE 29, COLORADO REVISED STATUTES, AS AMENDED?
