The Benton School District Referendum was a school bond measure on the April 7 ballot in the Benton School District which is in Lafayette County. The referendum was brought to the ballot by the school board, and it sought to exceed state-set revenue limits by $965,000. The additional funds would be used to maintain current levels of operations. In 2006 a similar short-term referendum was approved by the voters which will be expiring in March of 2009. The current referendum seeks to replace those expiring funds.[1]

Passed, with 407 "yes" votes and 291 "no" votes.[2]
Wording of referendum
BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of the School District of Benton, Layfayette County, Wisconsin, that the revenues included in the School District budget be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by up to $300,000 for the 2009 - 2010 school year, up to $325,000 for the 2010 - 2011 school year and up to $340,000 for the 2011 - 2012 school year for nonrecurring purposes consisting of continuing and enhancing the program approved in May 2006, which includes sustaining operating expenses with which to maintain the curent [sic] level of operations.[2]
