Sanchez filed to run for re-election in 2012. She was set to run against Jacob Candelaria and Carlos Jose Villanueva in the June 5, 2012 Democratic primary, but withdrew prior to the elction.[1][2]

On November 4, 2008, Sanchez was elected to the 26th District Seat in the New Mexico Senate, besting Spiro Gregory Vassilopoulos (R). [3] Sanchez raised $45,597 for her campaign, while Vassilopoulos did not raise any money. [4]
