An election to recall Lyons Village President Bernard Russell was to be held on February 24, 2009.[1] Though the recall effort continues, Russell has since been banned from his office and is the subject of an ongoing misconduct investigation.[2]
Lyons resident Jennifer Riley and her friend, Charity Wooden, formulated and filed recall language on Dec. 18, 2008 with the Ionia County Election Commission in an effort to have current Lyons Village President Bernard Russell removed from office.[1]
The petition language suggested that Russell had “misused village funds,” “abused the power of his position” and attempted to “extend his term in office through means other than a vote.” Russell was recalled once before by the Village of Lyons in December of 1980.[1]
