Bernie Hunhoff (b. September 5, 1951) is a Democratic member of the South Dakota House of Representatives, representing District 18. He currently serves as Minority Leader.

Hunhoff attended the University of South Dakota, Springfield. He then received his BA from Mount Marty College in 1974.

Hunhoff was a Legislative Aide for United States Representatives Frank Denholm in 1974. He then worked as a Writer for Watertown Public Opinion from 1974 to 1976, and for Madison Daily Lender from 1976 to 1977. From 1977 to 1980, he worked in Public Relations for the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. Hunhoff also worked as Publisher for Yankton County Observer from 1978 to 1985 and for Missouri Valley Observer from 1979 to 1989. He has been the owner/Editor/Publisher of South Dakota Magazine since 1985.

Hunhoff served in the South Dakota State Senate from 1992 to 1998. He served as Senate Minority Leader during the last two years of his senate service. He then ran for the office of Governor of South Dakota in 1998 but was not elected. Hunhoff joined the South Dakota State House of Representatives in 2009 and has served in that position since. He currently serves as House Minority Leader and represents the 18th District. Hunhoff and his wife, Myrna Mulloy, have two children.

Hunhoff won election in the 2012 election for South Dakota House of Representatives District 18. Hunhoff ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 5 and won election in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1]

Hunhoff ran for re-election to one of two seats in District 18 of the South Dakota House of Representatives. Also running were fellow incumbent Nick Moser (R), Charlotte Gibson (R) and Jay Williams (D).[2] Hunhoff and Nick Moser (R) won election in the November 2 general election.[3]
