Amerman attended State College of Science. He is a fab operator at the Bobcat Company. Amerman served in the military during the Vietnam War.[1]

Amerman ran in the 2012 election for North Dakota Senate District 26. Amerman and fellow incumbent Jerome Kelsh ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 12. They defeated Sebastian Ertelt and Kathy Skroch in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[2]
