Coffin served in the Nevada State Assembly from 1982 to 1985. He then joined the Nevada State Senate in 1986. He has served in that position since, representing the Clark 10 District.
Coffin earned his BS in Accounting/Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Coffin served in the United States Army Reserve in 1962. He was an International Observer in Nicaraguan Elections in 1990. He has worked for Bob Coffin Insurance since 1969. He has also been the owner of Bob Coffin Books from 1989 to the present.
Coffin and his wife, Mary, have three children.
