Bob Kolenberg was a Republican candidate in the 2011 special election for District 27 of the Connecticut State Senate. The special election takes place on February 22, 2011. Kolenberg is running to fill the vacancy created after Andrew McDonald (D) resigned to serve as governor Dan Malloy's chief counsel.

A native of Stamford, Kolenberg went on to receive a degree in economics from UCLA. After graduating, he started his own business, remarketing off-lease vehicles. Kolenberg went on to develop a transportation conglomerate which includes a car rental franchise, a vehicle leasing company, and a consumer finance company. He also serves on several boards and commissions. Kolenberg served on the Advisory of the New Covenant House soup kitchen and has been a member of the Knights of Columbus for 30 years. Kolenberg was and his wife Michelle have three children.

Kolenberg's 2011 special election Campaign site emphasizes his record of service as a member of the Stamford Board of Finance:

A seat from which he could speak out and vote against the special interests that were draining our tax dollars. A seat from which he could initiate action to reduce the waste in city government. A seat from which he could shout “Enough” and be heard up and down the corridors of city government. A seat from which he could have a significant impact on how we’re governed. A seat from which he could look out for you and your tax dollars. In sum, Bob Kolenberg was able to make a difference as your voice in city government."

Kolenberg was uncontested in the August 10 primary. He was defeated by incumbent Democrat Andrew McDonald in the November 2 general election.
