On November 4, 2008, Marshall was elected to the 13th District Seat in the Kansas State Senate, defeating Patty Horgan (D) and Larry Monaghan (L).[6] Marshall raised $126,316 for his campaign, while Horgan raised $75,010 and Monaghan raised $0.[7]
