Tabb served as a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, representing District 56 from 2002-2009. He has worked as an emergency medical technician, farmer, and nurseryman.

Tabb ran for West Virginia Commissioner of Agriculture in 2012. He lost against Sally Shepherd, Steve Miller, Joe Messineo and Walt Helmick in the Democratic primary on May 8.[1] Kent Leonhardt is unopposed in the Republican primary. Mike Teets ran on the Republican ticket but withdrew in mid-February.

Incumbent Gus Douglass (D) did not run for re-election.
