Issues
Campaign themes
2012
Westerman's campaign website lists the following issues:[1]
- Economy
- Excerpt: "Economic growth is the better way to generate public funds for education, infrastructure, and services. In contrast, taking the easy way out by raising taxes or creating programs that redistribute the same pool of wealth can hinder additional investments into businesses that generate wealth."
- Education
- Excerpt: "Education is an important part of the equation, but I believe we are failing our students when we encourage them to commit to education and then a number of those who commit have to go out of state to find a good job. Part of developing a good economy involves producing an educated work force."
- Other Issues
- Excerpt: "During the official closing ceremonies for a meeting of the FFA organization, the president states, "As we mingle with others, let us be diligent in labor, just in our dealings, courteous to everyone, and, above all, honest and fair in the game of life." This is a great piece of advice that I try to apply as I approach life's issues from a social and moral position. It emanates from the golden rule of doing to others as we would have them do to us. Even though the issues will be different and sometimes unexpected, my desire is to frame them from this perspective."
