On January 5, 2009, recall petitions were filed for Buena Vista Board of Trustees members Keith Baker, Mark Boston and Brett Mitchel.[1] Close to 30 people, both residents and out-of-town visitors, protested the recall petitions that were verified for sufficient signatures on Jan. 12.[1]
The recall election took place on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Buena Vista Convention Center.[2]Trustees Keith Baker, Mark Boston and Brett Mitchell kept their posts on the board by wide voter margins:
- Baker: 86 for recall, 271 against
- Boston: 97 for recall, 257 against
- Mitchell: 113 for recall, 240 against [3]
359 voters cast ballots. There are 1,714 registered voters in Buena Vista.[3]
Many objections were made to the recall election at the trustees regular meeting Jan. 13 at the community center. Arguments centered on issues during past recall elections, such as the slowing of economic development and low school enrollment. Many also complained that the petitions fail to address the specifics of the reasons for recall.[1]
