Burlington mayor advocates for local tax increase
BURLINGTON, Vermont: Burlington mayor Bob Kiss is asking Burlington residents to vote "yes" on Question 2 on their March 1 local ballot. Question 2 authorizes a local tax increase of 4 cents; the tax hike would go to the city's general operating fund.
The March 1 ballot has a total of 8 local ballot questions, including Question 5, which would raise the required winning vote percentage for mayor from 40% to 50%. Kiss supports a "yes" vote on Question 5 as well, but in this, he is opposed by a group from the New North End who "cite Kiss’ support of the question and his fondness for the IRV system that elected him twice as an indication the Democratic-sponsored question is a sneaky back-door way to get back to IRV."
