Twenty-eight statewide ballot propositions were on the 2000 ballot in California. Ballot proposition elections took place twice, first during the March 7, 2000 statewide primary and then again in the November 7, 2000 general election.
- Twenty statewide propositions were on the March ballot. Of these, twelve were approved and eight defeated.
- Eight propositions appeared on the November ballot. Of these, five were approved and three defeated.
Background
Looking at just the citizen-initiated measures:- There were 15 citizen-initiated measures, including 3 veto referenda on the March and November ballots taken together. Of these, six passed.
- Two of the three veto referenda failed.
- As of the end of 2000, a cumulative total of 275 initiatives (counting citizen-initiated constitutional amendments and citizen-initiated state statutes and not counting veto referenda) had appeared on California ballots since the first initiatives in 1912.
