A statewide advisory vote on California Assembly Bill 78, a Path to Citizenship for Undocumented Immigrants might have been, but ultimately was not, on the June 5, 2012 ballot in California.[1]
The advisory question, if it had appeared on the ballot and been approved by the state's voters, would have required the California Secretary of State to convey to "the President and the Congress of the United States" the belief of the state's voters that the federal government should "create a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who have worked in this country for at least 5 years, have no felony convictions, have learned to speak English, and have paid all taxes for which they are responsible."[2]
Assembly Bill 78 was sponsored by Tony Mendoza, a Democrat who has represented California's 56th Assembly District since 2006.[2]
