The
California Nurses Association (CNA) is a labor union in
California. It is a state affiliate of the National Nurses Organizing Committee and according to its website, it is also a member of the
AFL-CIO. Founded in 1903, The CNA has grown considerably with "more than 86,000 members in hospitals, clinics and home health agencies in all 50 states."
[1] In 2009 the CNA combined with the "United American Nurses, and the Massachusetts Nurses Association to create the largest union and professional association of nurses in U.S. history."
[1] The CNA major accomplishments include being a leading "advocate of guaranteed healthcare by expanding and updating Medicare to cover all Americans, for negotiating many of the best collective bargaining contracts for RNs in the nation, and for sponsorship of innovative legislation and regulatory protections for patients and nurses."
