California Proposition 1, pertaining to a Single Tax on Land to Replace the Sales Tax, was removed from the November 3, 1936 ballot by the California Supreme Court on the grounds that the ballot title that appeared on the petitions that were circulated to collect signatures to qualify it for the ballot were misleading.[1]

The Los Angeles Times lauded the removal, saying, "The vicious single tax measure, camouflaged behind sales tax repeal, has been deservedly kicked off the November election ballot."[2]
