California Proposition 159 was on the November 3, 1992 ballot in California as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment, where it was defeated.

Proposition 159 would have amended Article IV of the California Constitution to add a Section 23 and Section 4 of Article VII of the California Constitution to establish an Office of the Auditor General. The office of Auditor General would have been required to:
- Conduct independent, nonpartisan, professional audits, as required by state or federal law or as requested by the Legislature.
- Hire and promote staff on the basis of merit and professional qualifications.
