SACRAMENTO, California: A Parental Notification Before a Minor's Abortion ballot initiative (#10-0025) has been approved for circulation in California as an initiated constitutional amendment. To earn a spot on the state's 2012 ballot, sponsors of the initiative must collect 807,615 signatures by July 11, 2011.

A letter requesting a title and summary for the proposed initiative was signed by John Smith, and was received by the Attorney General of California's office on December 9, 2010. The working title of the proposed amendment is the "Parental Notification, Child and Teen Safety, and Stop Predators Act."

Proposed initiative 10-0025 would add a new Section 32 to Article I of the California Constitution.

Three statewide ballot propositions to require parental notification before a minor's abortion have previously been rejected by voters: California Proposition 73 (2005), California Proposition 85 (2006) and California Proposition 4 (2008).
