Prior to his election to the House, Holmes served as mayor of the city of Plains from 1982 to 1989. Since 1962 he has worked as a land manager of Holmes Farms.
Holmes received his BBA from Colorado State University.[1]

Issues
Holmes refused to take Project Vote Smart's 2008 Political Courage Test. The test, which is administered to all candidates for presidential, congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative offices, asks one central question - "Are you willing to tell citizens your positions on the issues you will most likely face on their behalf?"[2]

2012
Holmes ran for re-election in the 2012 election for Kansas House of Representatives District 125. He was defeated by Reid Petty in the August 7 Republican primary. No candidates filed to run in the Democratic primary. Holmes lost to Petty by nine votes, according to counting of provisional ballots on August 13, 2012. The official tally confirmed this difference.[4][5]The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[6][7]

Holmes won re-election to the 125th District Seat in 2010 with no opposition. He was also unopposed in the GOP primary. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.[8]
