Career
Romanelli lives in Wilkes-Barre and works as a rail industry consultant.[1]
Senate Campaign
In 2006, Romanelli ran as the Green Party candidate for Republican incumbent Rick Santorum's seat in the U.S. Senate. Romanelli benefited from contributions from some Republican sources, which enabled him to obtain the signatures required to get on the ballot.[2]
Ballot Signature Challenge
On January 24, 2007, Commonwealth Court Judge James R. Kelley ruled that Romanelli must pay $25,481 in wages to the Democratic Party’s petition reviewers, $1,500 for handwriting expert witnesses (even though those witnesses were never used), $48,285 in attorneys’ fees, $3,726 to stenographers, and $1,415 for copying costs.[3]
Now the Pennsylvania Supreme Court wants Judge Kelly to further explain his order. Romanelli has reported that he owns no real estate, no automobile, has very little savings, and said he cannot possibly pay $80,408 plus interest.[4]
